What do you wish everyone knew about bariatric surgery?
Laura: Everyone should know that people of all sizes deserve respect and care simply because they’re human. Being in a bigger body is not inherently a problem that needs to be fixed. One of my biggest passions is fighting weight stigma, and I believe that all of us, including those in smaller bodies, those who’ve had bariatric surgery and are now in smaller bodies, and those who work in bariatrics or health care should take part.
When you choose bariatric surgery, it’s important to have comprehensive care to support your well-being, which should include professional emotional support.
Jennifer: You are still you after surgery. You may change and become a better version of yourself, but your biggest supporter has to be you.
Jamie: It is, by far, not the "easy way out.” It's mentally and physically life changing. It takes hard work, devotion and patience. You have to maintain a new lifestyle. Surgery is a tool to help you. It's not a "cure all.”
